Phil was asked to produce a set of hockey jerseys for a local team in Detroit, MI based on dragons. Through the initial conversation, the ideas of excitement, dynamism were a recurring theme.

Traditional Eastern depictions of dragons were a major inflience with characters like Aku from Samurai Jack inspiring the intentionally rough spine and arms that contrast against the smooth and flowing body. The triadic red, yellow, and cyan over a black (originally navy) background allowed for these time tested colors to pop. The colors were later altered to be able to adapt to equipment readily available to players.
